Ruby Enthusiast Good evening from central Europe 🙂 Syed Ali Hello everyone hi Xah Potato Eater hi Scott Bilik Hello everyone. How's it going Xah? Scott Bilik Have you played with Emacs 28's ability to do native JIT compilation of ELisp?? Gribojedow Howdy from Eastern Europe. Dion Bridger hello hello Syed Ali I was here for the ‘unix pestilence’ rants Scott Bilik LOL! Taxes. Yeah, this is the first year in a while when I didn't owe the Fed IRS a ton of money. I didn't sell anything last year, so I also got a bit back from the Feds. Scott Bilik I did play with the "native compiled" Emacs. On most hardware Emacs is "fast enough" so the test I used was running M-x eww on pages that used to be slow from HTML parsing. Saw nice improvements there Dion Bridger elisp has JIT compilation now? Scott Bilik But today -- as you say -- I just reverted back to the default pre-built binary from my distribution. Just for ease of use and updates. Getting too old to worry about DLL versions and such... Syed Ali Sorry to hear about your mother. Gribojedow @Syed Ali Maybe if we ask nicely, Xah will give us a short summary of what is wrong with UNIX and C. Scott Bilik @Dion Bridger yes, it's a build option in Emacs 28 beta. I think I'd only attempt it on Linux at the moment. Dion Bridger Sweet Dion Bridger next we'll get strings Dion Bridger I would support more Elisp content from Xah Lee :) Scott Bilik Xah, I did play with Emacs Evil mode this past weekend. Back around 1989 I knew Bill Joy's original vi (not vim) inside-out, but switched to Emacs ~1992. My son is still a daily xah-fly-keys user. 👍 Dion Bridger are there no builtin functions for "get word" Dion Bridger "get line", "get paragraph" etc.? Syed Ali What is today’s beverage. Dion Bridger "you are late" - ah, my apologies Dion Bridger so get-word returns a string Dion Bridger maybe there is an analogue that returns something like an object with the literal string, boundaries, etc.?
