How to Read This Tutorial
How to Read This Tutorial
Plan, spend 30 minute to 1 hour per day.
- Week 1, read the Chapter Practical Emacs Tutorial (you are reading now), 5 to 10 pages a day. Roughly in the order the topics are presented. (don't worry if parts you don't understand.)
- Week 2, start to read the Chapter Emacs Init Setup. Read the first intro page first, then you can choose to read different sections on init.
- Week 3, read Chapter Emacs Keys. Read it roughly in the order given. If you never want to customize your key shortcuts, you can skip this chapter.
By now, you have great fundamentals of emacs.
Always try to use emacs while you read, if possible. I suggest you use emacs one hour per day.
All pages on this emacs site is as independent as much as possible.
After 2 months, when you are fluent with the emacs operation, start to read the Chapter (Emacs) Lisp Basics. That is getting into elisp. Not necessary for using emacs, but very helpful, and a life-time saver for programers.
There is a search button on every page, make sure to use that to search main title keywords for topic of interest.
