i think he is saying, that we think it as a critical question whether the universe is deterministic. However, that may be a silly question, because the concept came from our model of state machines, not necessarily intrinsic a property (or not) about the universe
After an hour of thinking, i think we may also say, the universe don't care about the notion of size and shape neither, but we ask it anyway, meaningfully.
the notion of size and shape came from geometry, but is universe a geometry?
It kinda became meta-physical. cuz we can't say, the universe actually follows an algorithm, which our state machines do.
so, maybe, in so far as we think of the universe as a computer, it does make sense, to ask whether it is deterministic, as we do distinguish NFA vs DFA.
