Why is Java Popular
Java became pop because google. Nothing else. Both java and python. They were dying, but google revived them, twice. Java was dying, but google use it as its lang, around 1997. That's the first time google saved java. Then it's dying again, but google used it as primary lang for android phone, in 2007. 2nd time google saved it.
For python, story is similar. 1st time is y2k google uses python, when nobody knew wtf is python. Then around 2010, machine learning became hip. (this is when jargons of big data and data science became popular.) Google use python as interface to its machine learning engines. That blew up python.
Java has always been aimless in limbo. Originally in 1995, java is for embeded devices. Then it is envisioned as cross-platform desktop software lang, then as dynamic web lang, then server lang. Only the enterprise server language role survived, and is what java is mainly used for.
