My Microsoft surface tablet charger broke. Cable bend damage at the magnetic connector. This cable should be replaceable but is merged into the charging brick, i suppose on purpose, so that if it broke, one has to buy the whole thing. Fuck these commercial corps. (Apple is worst)
Review of China Cheap Charger for Microsoft Surface Pro
2021-01-17 Bought a china cheapo replacement. The Microsoft original is $100. The china cheapo is $30.
2021-12-18 china cheapo charger i bought in 2021-01-17, now broke. After almost exactly a year of use.
Sometimes it doesn't charge. You have to bent the wire or try to snap it on and off.
Worse, the magnetic connector part have melted slightedly.
I don't want to buy a Microsoft original, because it's a rip off, and it also is not good quality. But the china cheapo at 1/3 the price, isn't quality neither.
After about 3 hours of reading amazon reviews, it seems, there is no good solution. Either buy a Microsoft original at $100 and expect it to break after a year, or buy a china nameless cheapo and risk seems a fire hazard. There is not better quality china brands you can buy. They are all nameless or temp brand names. The one i bought previously, its amazon page is gone.
faak, it seems to have fried my Surface tablet. Even before the 2nd newly ordered china cheapo charger arrived.
Here's what happened:
Snap on the magnetic charger. Saw that it's charging. After walking away for 1 min and back, notice the screen went blank. That means, it's not charging and it went to sleep. Unsnap and snap back, screen turn on for a moment, then went off. Now this is odd. Never happened. Then i snap and unstap the charger. Screen remain off. Pressing the power button, screen turns on showing Surface (the boot screen) for half a second and is off again. Pressing the power button again, same behavior. Holding the power button, same behavior.

2021-12-18 In the end, i ordered a new china cheapo.
2021-12-20 my new china cheapo charger arrived. It seems, my Microsoft Surface tablet is not broken. It works fine. I just plugged in the new china cheapo charger, and it all works again.
Second China Cheap Charger Broke
2022-10-19 the china cheapo charger i bought in 2021-12-20 now broke. lasted 10 months. The problem is, the fickle connection between the magnetic head and the cable. if you bent the cable in some way, it works sometimes.
Not good. The capble have not been subject to lots bending. In fact, in past year, i was rather careful not to bend it.
third china cheapo broke
2023-05-07 it broke again. basically, each one lasts about 10 months. and, sans any pulling, bending, or abusing cable,.
