Plover, is a system that uses normal computer keyboard as steno machine.

Plover is created by Mirabai Knight, around early 2007. Early main developer is Joshua Lifton (2009 to 2010), and Hesky Fisher (2011)

You'll need a keyboard with full NKRO (the ability to press multiple keys simultaneously and register correctly). 〔see Max Number of Simultaneous Key-Press (N-key Rollover, NKRO, Ghosting)〕

Most mechanical keyboards have 6 key roll-over, but that's not enough.
