Why no emoji named coffee?

๐Ÿบ ๐Ÿท ๐Ÿธ ๐Ÿถ ๐Ÿฅƒ ๐Ÿต ๐Ÿซ– ๐Ÿง‹ ๐Ÿง‰ ๐Ÿฅ› ๐Ÿฅค ๐Ÿงƒ

โ˜• (U+2615: HOT BEVERAGE)

there are many emoji for drinks but none is named coffee, why?

Because the character โ˜• (U+2615: HOT BEVERAGE) has been in unicode since 2003, and was by convention used for coffee. There was no emoji yet. Emoji was added 7 years later.

when unicode had a lot food and drink emojis, they did not add coffee, because the HOT BEVERAGE โ˜• is already known as coffee by convention.

Emoji was added in 2010. Food emoji begins to be added starting in 2015.

so we have the inconsistent situation, where you have many named drinks, but not coffee.

Why no emoji named red heart

there a lot colored hearts, but no emoji named โ€œred heartโ€. Why?

๐Ÿงก ๐Ÿฉท ๐Ÿ’› ๐Ÿ’š ๐Ÿฉต ๐Ÿ’™ ๐Ÿ’œ ๐Ÿค ๐Ÿฉถ ๐ŸคŽ ๐Ÿ–ค

in the beginning, we have heart character from playing cards:

and we have generic heart symbols:

the black heart, are often rendered red.

the many colored heart emoji came about 20 years later. by then, the โค (U+2764: HEAVY BLACK HEART) and โ™ฅ (U+2665: BLACK HEART SUIT) are already rendered as red hearts, thus, no explicit red heart emoji was created.
