Emoticons on Social Network: Facebook, Twitter, Sina Weibo
when you post Unicode emoticons on Facebook, some of them get turned into images automatically.

You can see that, they have different style of drawings, and not all Unicode emoticons are changed to images.
This is a conscious decision. When you design the website, you have to decide which Unicode characters should be changed to images, and you have to have a graphic artist to draw the emoticons.
