OGHAM is an early medieval alphabet used primarily to write Primitive Irish and later Old Irish, dating from approximately the 4th to the 10th centuries AD. It consists of 20 primary letters (plus later additions) represented by straight lines and notches carved along a central vertical "stem," typically the edge of a stone monument.
